High-Grade Steel Tubing Starts with Smarter Steam
Across global energy, machinery and construction sectors, the mechanical integrity of steel tubing is non-negotiable. Yet conventional heat-treatment lines still wrestle with two chronic pain-points: excessive energy draw and temperature drift that can exceed ±10 °C, eroding yield and dimensional accuracy.
A forward-looking tube producer has now replaced its legacy oil-fired setup with our 2.2 tph DZL horizontal biomass steam boiler. The compact, fully automated unit feeds a closed-loop thermal network that pre-heats, forms and post-treats every pipe with steam held within ±2 °C. Energy use per tonne of finished tube has dropped 18 %, while first-pass acceptance has climbed above 99 %. The plant's new benchmark: higher throughput, tighter tolerances, lower carbon footprint-all delivered by smarter steam.
Application process

1. Heat-treatment stages (annealing / normalizing / tempering)
Steam plays a pivotal role: it serves both as the hydrogen feedstock and as the thermal driver in the production of protective atmospheres such as N₂-H₂ blends (via methanol cracking or natural-gas reforming), preventing oxidation of the steel tubes. In certain furnace designs, steam-or its latent heat of condensation-is employed as a direct heating medium. It is also used to fine-tune furnace atmosphere by precisely controlling humidity and oxygen content. During tempering or stress-relief annealing, steam may again be involved in generating protective gas or supplying supplementary heat.
2. Pickling Line
Steam's primary mission here is to deliver heat safely and efficiently. It indirectly warms the acid bath-sulfuric, hydrochloric or mixed acids-via immersed coils or external jackets, accelerating oxide-scale removal without direct flame contact. After pickling, steam-heated water powers successive rinse and spray cycles, flushing away residual acid and metal fines to ensure a perfectly clean, passivated surface ready for galvanizing or further coating.


3. Galvanizing (Hot-Dip)
Steam first keeps the pickling liquor at reaction temperature, then becomes indispensable in the flux stage: it heats the flux tank to maintain the activator's working range and, more critically, powers a steam-heated hot-air dryer that leaves every tube bone-dry. This complete moisture removal prevents zinc splash when tubes enter the molten-zinc bath. Post-dip, steam is also used to warm passivation solutions or rinse water, ensuring uniform coating and corrosion resistance.
4. Plant Environment & Pipeline Maintenance (Space Heating & Tracing)
In cold-climate mills, steam provides reliable space heating for production halls, keeping both personnel and equipment within their optimal temperature ranges. For process lines that carry viscous oils, chemical solutions or other temperature-sensitive media, stainless-steel steam tracing coils are wrapped around the pipes; this gentle, uniform heat prevents freezing or viscosity build-up, guaranteeing uninterrupted flow and stable process conditions throughout the facility.
